The opening of the NEW Moana-themed attraction — Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana — is getting closer and closer, and the space is looking much more complete these days.
We’ve been tracking its construction for a long time, listening for new things near the attraction, and watching for opening date details (of course). The walk-through attraction is not set to open until the fall of 2023, but BOY is it looking different these days compared to where it was even just a few months ago. And as we stopped by recently, we noticed even more new things!
While we were in EPCOT recently, we saw that many features at the Moana attraction were OPERATIONAL! We’re talking about mist, water effects, sound effects, and even music. We had heard some more atmospheric sounds before but now it looks like Disney is moving on to testing more of this attraction.
A Cast Member we spoke to didn’t have any more specific opening date details beyond fall 2023, but it REALLY looks like things are coming together here. Look at all that water!

On one side, we could see water jumping around at different times in what seemed like a synchronized fashion, with one stream of water shooting off after another.
It felt sort of similar to the little jumping fountains you’ll find over by the Imagination pavilion.
If you look closely, you can also see leaping fountains! pic.twitter.com/qjENRh3Sjl

And if you listen closely, you’ll hear some music playing for the attraction.

From the monorail, we could see just how much progress has been made.
The pathways are looking nice, light fixtures appear to be in place, and we could see some individuals in the area (potentially testing aspects of the attraction).
The attraction will be a walk-through experience that Disney has described as a “lush exploration trail.” It’ll encourage people to “play with magical, living water” and teach guests about the natural water cycle too.
Throughout the space, there will be references to familiar characters (like Moana herself and more) carved into the rocks and waterways.
We can’t wait to see this attraction once it is completed.
Fall 2023 might not be here yet, but this attraction does look like it’s making a lot of progress ahead of that opening timeline.
